They used to be protesters. Now, they’re the ones making the laws.


Hundreds of members of Congress have weighed in on the campus protests against Israel’s war in Gaza, and many have condemned the demonstrators and their tactics or criticized antisemitism on college campuses.

But a smaller group of Democratic House lawmakers have participated in protest movements themselves — demonstrating in marches, sit-ins and other forms of civil disobedience — and they can’t help but feel an affinity with this new generation of protesters.
