Two bodies were found inside a building on the Knoxville College campus Sunday in Tennessee, authorities said.

After the Knoxville Fire Department put out a fire on campus Sunday morning, the Knoxville Police Department responded to a report of “two deceased individuals” in a building separate from where the fire occurred, Knoxville police said in a statement on Facebook.

“Officers responded and located the bodies of a man and woman,” Knoxville police said.

The bodies were taken to the Knox County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy so they can be identified, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and foul play is not suspected at this time, Knoxville police said.

Many of the college’s buildings are vacant

Knoxville College is a historically Black institution founded in 1875. It currently serves online students as administrators work to regain the school’s accreditation, reported the Knoxville News Sentinel, part of the USA TODAY Network.

Many of the college’s buildings have been vacant since the campus closed in 2017, KNS reported.
