Intuitive Surgical Crumbles Despite Beating Quarterly Calls

Late Thursday, Intuitive Surgical (ISRG) reported adjusted earnings of $1.42 per share on $1.76 billion in second-quarter sales. In response, ISRG stock tumbled.

On average, analysts polled by FactSet expected the robotic surgery giant to earn $1.33 per share on $1.74 billion in sales. Procedures using the company’s da Vinci robotic surgery system rose 22%.

In the year-earlier period, Intuitive Surgical earnings were $1.14 a share and the company reported $1.52 billion in sales.

Intuitive Surgical didn’t offer an outlook. ISRG stock analysts had called for adjusted earnings of $5.49 a share and $7.14 billion in sales.

In after-hours trading on today’s stock market, ISRG stock plunged 5.1% near 329.

Shares have a strong Relative Strength Rating of 92 out of a best-possible 99, according to IBD Digital. This puts ISRG stock in the top 8% of all stocks when it comes to 12-month performance.
