Opinion | Ah, so this is how government is supposed to work

Opinion | Ah, so this is how government is supposed to work

Regarding the Nov. 20 Education article “The hidden financial aid hurdle derailing college students”:

I finally got a glimpse of how government is supposed to work. New federal legislation to help students who need financial aid has been introduced by Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) to help applicants who might get caught in a government Catch-22 that bumps them out of financial aid for college.

To quote Ms. Foxx, “Senator Booker’s bill isn’t perfect, but I am always willing to find common ground to improve policies and outcomes for students.” Yes, yes, yes. This is exactly how our government should work!

I continue to hope for a time when more dedicated politicians, both Republican and Democrat, will look for the common ground on our many pressing issues instead of being obstructionists simply because they represent the opposite party. Though not perfect, it’s an improvement over what currently exists and the benefits to citizens is huge.
