A United States lawyer says he is representing 120 accusers who have come forward with sexual misconduct allegations against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, the hip-hop mogul who is awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
Background: Houston lawyer Tony Buzbee said he expects lawsuits to be filed within the next month. Buzbee described the victims as 60 males and 60 females, and that 25 were minors at the time of the alleged misconduct.
Buzbee said his team had been in contact with more than 3,285 individuals claiming to have been victimized by Combs and, after vetting the accusers, they decided to represent 120 people who intend to bring civil claims against him.
Combs, 54, has been locked up at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since pleading not guilty on September 17 to federal charges that he used his “power and prestige” to induce female victims into drugged-up, elaborately produced sexual performances with male sex workers in events dubbed “Freak Offs”.
The key quote: “The biggest secret in the entertainment industry – it really wasn’t a secret at all – has finally been revealed to the world. The wall of silence has now been broken and victims are coming forward,” Buzbee said at a press conference.
What else to know: After pleading not guilty to the three criminal charges, US Magistrate Judge Robyn Tarnofsky denied bail for Combs, granting a prosecution request for continued detention before trial.
Lawyers and other representatives for Combs did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment on the new allegations.
