The United States is still on a knife’s edge between Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
Polls are now closed in 48 out of 50 states.
At the time of publication, Trump has claimed 230 while Harris has taken 205 — the winning candidate will need to claim at least 270.
Trump has so far claimed: Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
Harris has claimed: California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont.
The first of the seven key swing states at the US election has been called, with Donald Trump projected to win North Carolina.

None of the other swing states — Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Nevada and Arizona — have been called yet.

None of the states that have been called so far for either candidate have flipped from the 2020 race between President Joe Biden and Trump.

House and Senate races

Voters are waiting to see which party will control the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The Democrats are defending a thin 51-49 majority in the Senate, but Republicans could lose their grip in the House, where Democrats only need to pick up four seats to take back control.

At the time of publication 50 Republicans and 41 Democrats have been voted into the Senate, while in the House of Representatives, 170 Republicans and 123 Democrats have been voted in.
