Chevrolet has finally taken its cover from C8 Corvette. It is the first-ever convertible hardtop corvette that will go under production from the first quarter of 2020. The Chevy selected an aircraft hangar in Florida to unveil this hardtop car.
On this event, Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. vice president of Performance and Motorsports, said, “The C8.R is much more than just a race-tuned version of the 2020 Corvette Stingray. It’s a culmination of many years of testing and development between GM Design, Propulsion, Engineering, and the Corvette Racing team.”
The Corvette racing team has been serving on the racing track for the last two decades, offering some most favoured and powerful machines on the roads. This team has made it possible for the Corvette to win 107 raced in the last two decades.
There is no doubt about the open-air driving experience offered by the Chevrolet Corvette. Since its introduction in the year 1953, they are offering its entire cars as convertible. This time again, the Corvette Convertible has brought the heritage back, making it the first hardtop, mid-engine convertible car.
Corvette Convertible Hardtop Specifications:
The C8 Corvette is powered by six powerful electric motors that can churn out the maximum speed of 30mps in just 16 seconds. To maintain the proper air circulation in the car, the divider glasses are installed smartly. The creative design of this car, Vlad Kapitonow, mentioned that no Ferrari design had been inherited to create this hardtop car. Vlad also said, “I had an aesthetic of a Corvette in my mind, and then many things inspired me: airplanes, fighter jets, anything fast and emotional.”
Getting more into its engine, it is installed with the 6.2-liter small-block V-8 LT2 engine; the same which is used in the coupe. The engine can churn out 495 hp power with 470-foot-pounds of torque. The first-ever eight-speed dual-clutch transmission will accompany this engine. General Motors made the commitment that this engine will provide the lightning-fast shifts and excellent power transfer.
The designer has given a unique and distinct design to this hardtop; still the car has the same aerodynamic drag as of coupe. Chevy said that additional heat shields are installed to safeguard the engine from overheating. Moving to its boot space, it can comfortably accommodate a set of golf clubs. Alongside, the front storage compartment can store a carry-on as well as a laptop bag.
In terms of interior, not many updates are given compared with the coupe. On this, the interior designer Tristan Murphy said, “We were trying to keep the dash as low as possible. The whole name of the game is keeping everything low.”
Corvette Convertible Hardtop price:
In terms of price, this hardtop will be priced at $67,495 for the 1LT trim level, which is just $7,500 more than the coupe.
Corvette Convertible Hardtop Release Date:
