(BPRW) BAPTIST HEALTH ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH ALONZO MOURNING AT MIAMI HEAT MEN’S HEALTH SUMMIT
(Black PR Wire) MIAMI, FL – Baptist Health hosted the Miami HEAT Men’s Health Summit on Saturday, November 16 at the Kaseya Center. In honor of Men’s Health Awareness Month, the event highlighted the importance of preventative screenings and health services for men, featuring engaging discussions with South Florida legends Alonzo Mourning, Dan Marino, Glen Rice and Ed Jovanovski. Free and open to the public, the activation offered health screenings, raffles, autographed prizes, and other complimentary giveaways.
“Unfortunately, it isn’t uncommon for men to shy away from their regular exams and doctors’ visits,” said Jonathan Fialkow, MD, cardiologist and chief medical executive of Population Health, Value and Primary Care for Baptist Health. “We are pleased to partner with Alonzo Mourning and the Miami HEAT team to help educate the community on these topics and hopefully encourage them to prioritize their health.”
At the event, attendees experienced panels and fireside chats with Baptist Health physicians of different focus areas, including Michael Swartzon, MD, sports medicine physician; Eli Friedman, MD, medical and sports cardiologist; and Manuel Ozambela, MD, urologic surgical oncologist. During the discussions, the athletes shared stories from their own health journeys and why appointments cannot be put off.
“As men, we cannot wait until something happens to take charge of our health, we have to be proactive,” said Alonzo Mourning, former Miami HEAT player and current vice president of player development. “Together with Baptist Health, I am urging men to prioritize their annual screenings and focus on building long term habits – before serious medical conditions come up.”
Attendees also had the opportunity to get screened on-site, enjoy complimentary food and beverage services by local vendors and participate in various sports activations, from golf simulators and air hockey to boxing and stretching.
The event also served as the official kickoff to Baptist Health’s partnership with Alonzo Mourning, where the Basketball Hall of Famer will be a brand ambassador for the Men’s Health Campaign. As part of the partnership, Alonzo Mouring will join Udonis Haslem as a co-lead brand ambassador for Bounce Back to Cancer TM, an annual community-wide, family-friendly fundraising event in partnership with The Miami HEAT benefitting Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute. The funds raised from this event will help fund lifesaving clinical trials and groundbreaking cancer research.
