Oil and natural-gas prices jumped after the surprise weekend attack on Israel by Hamas and the Israeli response risked stoking instability in the petroleum-rich Middle East.
Brent crude futures, the global benchmark, rose 3.8% toward $88 a barrel.
U.S. marker West Texas Intermediate rose 3.8% to over $84 a barrel.
European natural-gas futures leaped nearly 11% to around 42.40 euros a megawatt-hour.
