Opinion | Argentines deserve a change and a chance

I visited regularly as a lawyer for the U.S. Agency for International Development in the 1970s and 1980s. A university student driving me in a taxi fulminated, “Do you know why Argentina still exists? Because the politicians have to sleep at night! Do you know why the Casa Rosada (the official workplace of the president) is pink? From shame! ”

Our great senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-N.Y.) called Argentina “‘miracle’ of economic non-growth.” We shall see what happens with Mr. Milei, but my wonderful Argentine friends deserve our best wishes for major, positive change.
