Finally justice prevailed and Mr. Sheldon Silver, who was once a popular speaker of New York State Assembly for complete 5 years is sentenced to imprisonment for 78 months after two trials. The charges imposed on him for being a promoter of corruption proved to be true. On Monday, Mr. Silver’s attorney lost the case whereas he lost his freedom and despite the coronavirus outbreak he was sentenced to jail.
His lawyer tried his best to save the freedom of living of Mr. Silver by laying before the court his medical history, which showed he is suffering from cancer and chronic kidney disease. The lawyer even tried to take the help of the current pandemic situation by claiming that in jail the chances of getting affected by the deadly virus is more. He even added that Mr. Silver is growing old and at the age of 76 his immune system has grown very weak, which sends an open invitation to the deadly virus.
Before getting the final sentence, Mr. Silver tried to receive mercy from Valerie E. Caproni who was the Judge at the Federal District Court in Manhattan by writing to him “ Your honour, I do not want to die in prison ”. However, all his hard work went in vain as no mercy was allotted to him. At the end the judgement came which read “Mr. Silver has been sentenced to 78 months of imprisonment “. The action he was offended on was proved true at the court and the judge charged him for his greediness, which made Mr. Silver a corrupted man.
